HTC Home Customizer Installation Instructions
Requirements
.NET Compact Framework v2.0 (Included in Windows Mobile 6 devices)
HTC Home plugin (can be downloaded through HHC)
Known Incompatibilities
- The HTC Home plugin may not unload properly when running X-Button 1.5, causing appearance changes not to be applied. Please uninstall (if possible) X-Button 1.5 and upgrade to HTC Task Manager (X-Button 2.0) to fix this issue.
- The HTC Home plugin will not unload properly when running inside SPB Mobile Shell or other programs that embed Today Screen plugins. This can be overcome by: 1. Removing the HTC Home plugin from it’s container program. 2. Disable the HTC Home plugin from Settings->Today->Items prior to launching HHC. HHC may or may not automatically reload the plugin. If it doesn’t, you can re-enable it from the Settings->Today->Items list.
Installation directly on device
NOTE: You must have an unzipping program on your device to extract the setup file. If you do not have one, you can download Pocket RAR directly to your device here.
1. Download the HTC Home Customizer zip file to your device. You should probably download it to a storage card if possible.
2. Extract the CAB file from the ZIP. Optionally some zip programs allow you to run the file directly from the archive.
3. Run (tap) the CAB file to start the installation.
4. Select the location you would like to install HTC Home Customizer. The initial install is just over 4MB. If you have a device with low memory, you should install to a storage card.
5. After installation has completed, launch HTC Home Customizer from the Programs menu (Start->Programs->HTC Home Customizer).

Post Installation
Upon first run, HHC will extract the packaged appearance files. This may take a while depending on install location and device write speed. Once complete, HHC will check to see if the HTC Home plugin is installed on your device. If not, it will prompt you that it’s required and offer to download and install it directly to your device.
You may manually install the HTC Home plugin prior to the initial launch. If you choose to let HHC download and install, then you will be prompted for the install location of the HTC Home plugin. You MUST choose Device as the location otherwise HHC and the HTC Home plugin may not work correctly. You may be prompted to reboot your device after installation is complete. This is unnecessary because HHC will change the appropriate settings to let the HTC Home plugin work without a reboot.
Once these steps are complete, HHC will launch into its interface like it normally will every time you run it from now on. Make your changes and Save to apply appearances and load/reload the HTC Home plugin.
After installation, you may delete any ZIP or CAB files that are left because these were only needed for installation.
